Why hoist canopies attract gulls

A hoist canopy offers what gulls look for in a loafing spot: a raised, flat, open surface with a clear view of the water and nothing able to reach them from below. Birds go back to a place that works for them, so droppings on the canopy, on the boat underneath and around the dock tend to build through a season rather than stop on their own.

How it works

Posts fitted to the canopy carry lines above the canopy surface, breaking up the open, uninterrupted area a gull needs in order to settle. It is a physical deterrent: nothing to refill, no chemicals and no power supply.
