A covered area gives birds three things at once: a roof overhead, a flat surface to land on, and an open side to get in through. Awnings and canopies, loading dock doors, garages, gazebos, hangars and open-sided barns all share that combination, and pigeons, starlings, sparrows and swallows will use it to nest, roost and shelter out of the weather.
Covered areas need a different approach from open ground. The structure is already there, so the work is closing the gaps birds get in through, removing the surfaces they land on inside, and making the space itself uncomfortable enough that they move elsewhere.

Gel and UV Paint
A surface treatment for the ledges, sills, beams, rafters and entrances inside a covered area. Spikes take away the flat landing surface on beams, rafters, ledges and loading bay structures. Stainless steel will not corrode in weather or salt air. Choose the width that matches the surface you are protecting.

Ozone
Flock Free O3 Invisible Netting emits a small amount of ozone, which birds move away from. It is designed for covered areas specifically — canopies, porches, hangars, sheds, barns and warehouses — and is recommended above entrances and loading dock doors to discourage birds from entering the building. It is not intended for open ground.

Bird Netting
Netting closes the opening. In a covered area it is the method that physically prevents entry rather than discouraging it, which matters most where birds are already established.

This is the liquid repellent itself, and it is the product the bombs and pucks below are designed to be used with. It works as a visual, scent and taste deterrent, dries clear, and suits the surfaces birds actually land on inside a covered area — beams, purlins, ledges, door frames and the underside of a canopy. For use around children and pets. Use as directed.

Choosing a Starting Point
If birds are getting inside, start at the opening — netting across it, or an ozone unit above the entrance. If they are already inside and landing on the structure, start with spikes or gel on the beams and ledges they are using. Bird Repellent Spray works alongside either method and is the usual follow-up once the surfaces are clear. The scent products at the bottom of the page do most in the more enclosed spaces.
